From the publisher: "A landmark in the annals of American photography and polar adventure, William Bradford's book The Arctic Regions was first published for subscribers in 1873. No more than 300 copies of the leather-bound elephant folio are known to have been printed." American painter Bradford set sail for the Arctic in 1869, taking with him explorer Isaac Israel Hayes, and two Boston photographers, John L. Dunmore and George P. Critcherson, the first professional photographers to document an Arctic voyage. The New Bedford Whaling Museum in Massachusetts claims William Bradford, who was born in nearby Fairhaven, as one of their own. Two museum patrons funded the reprint of the book, which accompanied an exhibition on eh Arctic world of Bradford's day. This hard-to-find reprint is ex-library, but shows only light wear, a library sticker in the bottom right corner of the front free endpaper, tape on the cover edges, and a clean and unmarked text block. The dust jacket has a library call number sticker on back but is otherwise pristine. Very Good / Fine. Item #22
