The Karluk carried the largest Arctic mission in history, staffed with scientists as well as crew, sent from British Columbia to find evidence of a continent beneath the Arctic ice cap. The expedition, led by Vilhjalmar Stefansson, quickly ran into trouble. It took nine months before rescuers were able to extract the much diminished crew of 12 survivors.
This was Jennifer Niven's first book. She also wrote Ada Blackjack, the story of another doomed Arctic mission, but is best known for her success in young adult genre, especially All the Bright Places.. Fine / Fine. Item #18
